Cactus, Ground Cover, and Elevation

Since Pro-Master Painting has earned a ‘Masters’ in custom home painting over 30 plus years, we learned by trial and error the ins-and-outs of what works best for protecting the various cacti and ground covering unique to the professional landscaping around a custom property.

•  Pro-Master believes the ground, bushes, trees, statuary, and cactus should look the same way when we leave as it did when we arrived: With no trampled flowers or groundcover and no over spray on vegetation that has grown close to the house. 

• To accomplish this, we carefully pull back the dirt from the bottom of the walls before painting.  This is done for two reasons, to paint below the finished grade, and for a clean line around the bottom of the exterior walls when the job is finished. 

Some cacti are valuable hybrids and deserve special care.

• The last home we completed in Desert Highlands, a gated community of finer homes in North Scottsdale, just happened to have a 150-year-old Saguaro Cactus growing mere inches from an exterior wall. 

• We carefully (indeed, very carefully) fit the saguaro with a cardboard jacket, so that we would not get any paint on it.  The skilled and experienced spray painter was then able to get the wall behind it properly painted.

Ladders are a Painter's second-best friend, right after a brush.

• We have also learned it takes many different ladders to paint an apparently simple 1-story home due to the many hills and valleys in the landscaping. 

• It is not unusual to need a 28-foot extension ladder on a 1- level home in the rolling hills of the Sonoran Desert.
